Studying at the Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey, and later graduating from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Dr. Denise Tropea is board certified in surgery and practices all aspects of medical and surgical foot care in Las Vegas, Nevada. She directs a Preventive Foot Care Center in her practice location. See her practice information listing at www.leapalliance.org/EVENTS.html
Dr. Tropea strongly advocates that women take a “sensible” approach to the shoes they wear. Some can literally be a health hazard. She warns women that super-dressy shoes with super-high-heels should be labeled, “WARNING: This shoe may be hazardous to your health.” She points out that while they may be okay for short time use at those special occasions, constantly walking with your heels elevated up and your toes pointing way down – exactly what happens in shoes like those pictured– throws your posture out of whack. Low back problems stressing can often be traced to the postural position a woman has to take to avoid stooping forward. Women women who are pregnant should be especially cautious.
